The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce honored BARC at the Beautiful Bakersfield Award Ceremony on Saturday, June 14, 2008, highlighting BARC's premier educational achievements for the developmentally disabled during 2007. Jim Baldwin, BARC President, and Melinda Harrison, BARC Community Inclusion Specialist, proudly accepted the Beautiful Bakersfield Crystal Camellia Award acknowledging the MOVE Program and what it means to our community and for developmentally disabled everywhere. Baldwin stated, "I have never been so proud as I watch our community discover BARC, a jewel of great value and a city of care and industry within Bakersfield and Kern County that so many did not know existed..."

A panel of over 30 community members participated in a judging process that included several categories such as architecture, art, health, and education. The awards recognized organizations and citizens who helped to improve the image and quality of life in the community during 2007. BARC’s implementation of the MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Experience) helps individuals with disabilities acquire increased independence in sitting, standing, and walking; and experience better health and enhanced personal dignity through a research-based program of hard work, repetition and dedication by trained professionals and families.
